I was in West Palm Beach, Florida on a work convention. We each had our own room in the hotel. After one of the morning meetings, I went upstairs to change before heading down to the hotel gym. I have a tendency when I take off my shoes to kick them off and leave them wherever they fall (unless it’s right in the middle of the floor, then I’ll pick them up). I had heels on, and I kicked them off to the side of the bed. Housekeeping had already been in my room for the day. The bed was made and there were fresh towels. They wouldn’t be back until turn-down service in the evening.
When I returned from my workout, as soon as I opened the door, I stopped. My heels were in the middle of the floor, standing side-by-side, perfectly aligned next to each other. I thought it odd…even if the housekeeping staff had returned to my room, they would have moved the shoes off to the side of the room, near the wall, not dead center in the middle of the room. I shrugged it off as just a weird experience.
The next day, again after a morning meeting, I came up to the room to take a nap. We were all up late the night before. I was lying on my stomach on top of the covers, listening to the seagulls outside and the housekeeping staff running vacuums in the hall and other rooms. I suffer from insomnia, so I don’t fall asleep very quickly. Suddenly, I felt the corner of the bed near my feet sink, as if someone had just taken a seat. Did your mother ever smooth the covers over your legs or feet when you were a child? Yeah? Well, I felt that. Except there was no blanket or duvet covering me. My feet turned to ice, and I felt the cold travel up my body. As the icy feeling neared my head, I began to hear whispering. There were many voices, and the conversation was chaotic. I had no idea what they were saying. I shut my eyes tightly, fearing what I might see if I peeked.
Then, as suddenly as it began, it stopped. My body warmed up, and I heard seagulls and vacuuming again. I jumped up off the bed and practically ran from that room. As soon as I got downstairs to where many of my coworkers were gathered, I breathlessly described my appearance. Turns out, I wasn’t the only one. Others had gone through strange disturbances as well.
Nothing happened after that, but it was definitely a trip to remember.
